Abstract:To verify the effect of interstage bleeding on the overall performance of the multistage axial compressor, numerical and ex? perimental investigations of the effect of interstage bleeding on the overall performance and matching characteristics of a ten-stage axial compressor with a total pressure ratio over 20 were conducted. The numerical simulation results show that characteristics of individual stag? es are affected to a limited extent, while the overall mass flow rate and its allocation and matching near the bleeding location are altered, thus the overall performance of the compressor changed. For the multistage axial compressor, the front stages are choked at design speed. Compared with bleeding from stage 7, bleeding from stage 4 can significantly increase the mass flow rate of the compressor and change the interstage matching. The effect of bleeding on overall mass flow decreases as the location of bleeding is further away from the inlet of the compressor. Test results show that with a 2% increase or decrease of stage 4 bleeding, the increase and the decrease of total mass flow will be 0.8% and 1.3% respectively. For the Influence of stage 4 bleeding on compressor performance, the decrease is more significant than the increase. The effects of bleeding on compressor performance and working point matching of stages obtained from the rig test are consistent with that derived from the numerical simulation.
